The history behind Vela Garška
Vela Garška today is considerably different than it was only ten years ago. Throughout the years, we have invested a lot of time and effort to provide our guests with a unique holiday spot, away from the fast-paced and loud urban environment, which is becoming increasingly difficult to escape.

Around the 1950s, Hvar fishermen decided to use the good protection Vela Garška bay provides and built two fishing houses. These are Konoba Mareta and Calma beach bar today. The cove served as a safe haven for fishermen through unstable weather conditions and occasionally as a warehouse for their tools. The function of Vela Garška as a refuge was short-lived as the fishermen quickly left the bay and the houses were forgotten for many years.

New Beginnings
In 2010 we started cleaning the bay, which has in the meantime become a waste disposal site. The nature and sea-bed were severely damaged, but by removing the waste, slowly recuperating the bay and renovating the abandoned houses, we gave it a new purpose. Today, visitors can admire Hvar nature, enjoy homemade and freshly prepared Dalmatian specialties in Konoba Mareta, or have a cocktail in Calma beach bar.
